Uranostind with guide
The 2,157-meter-high Uranostinden is a landmark in the southern part of Jotunheimen, and a fantastic hike in varied terrain – including an exciting glacier passage.
Uranostinden was first climbed in 1876, and is considered by many to be one of Jotunheimen's most beautiful peaks. The view from the top is fantastic, with peaks and mountain lakes as far as the eye can see.
Meet at 08:00 at the start of Koldedalsvegen, below Tyinholmen. Participants must drive themselves to the barrier in Koldedalen where the trail starts (unless otherwise agreed). Note: Koldedalsvegen is a construction road that may be potholed. If the road is not passable due to snow or other conditions, guests must use bicycles to the barrier. Bicycles can be rented from Filefjellstuene, or use their own bicycles.
The trip is suitable for those who have been on day trips before in rough terrain. On the trip we walk at a steady pace throughout the day, with few, short breaks. The trip lasts 8-10 hours from the start of the trail in Koldedalen. We take the normal route and follow the Uranosbreen glacier up to the north side of the mountain, where we walk off the glacier and do the summit push. On the return we follow the same route.
Your guide will contact you in the days before the tour. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about the tour!
Description of the trip
From Koldedalsveien we follow a nice path in gentle terrain until we meet Uradalsvannet. There we walk on rocks in the river mouth. From here it gradually gets steeper towards the glacier. The path will also eventually be replaced by scree and moraines until we reach Uranosbreen. There we take a well-deserved lunch break before we put on crampons and walk in a rope formation across the glacier.
From the top of the glacier to the top of the mountain there is only stone cairn. Here it is useful to have good, stiff mountain shoes. At the top we reach a small plateau before it becomes steep on both sides. Here you can sit down, or join us out on the airy ridge to reach the cairn at the highest point. The view is absolutely fantastic from the top.
