Marked snowshoe trail - YELLOW - Bøastølen

Snowshoe trail through snow-covered nature to beautiful viewpoints.

Three people on a snowshoe hike on The King's Road

Do you want a trip where you keep your snowshoes on from start to finish? Then our yellow snowshoe trail is for you!

The yellow trail is one of our marked snowshoe trails around Filefjellstuene and takes you on a round trip through beautiful forest areas and along Kongevegen, all the way to a viewpoint at Bøastølen.

Start at Filefjellstuene and follow the path towards Grøvstølen. After a short while, you'll enter beautiful winter nature with snow-covered trees, frost on branches, deep snow, and great viewpoints. Fill your thermos with something warm and enjoy the peaceful hike.

The trail is clearly marked with yellow plastic poles with reflectors at the top, making it easy to navigate both during the day and when darkness falls. Along the route, you will cross both alpine and cross-country ski tracks, so be aware and show consideration when crossing them. Remember to follow the snowshoe trail markings and avoid walking on alpine or cross-country ski tracks with snowshoes.

For an extra magical experience, the trip is recommended in the evening. On clear nights, you can experience a spectacular starry sky here at Tyin Filefjell, which truly captures the attention of both young and old.

Good to know about our marked snowshoe trails

Trail maps are available on Strava. Here are direct links to the different trails:

Green trail - Scavenger hunt at Synhaug

Yellow trail - Bøastølen

Red trail - Steinhaug

The trails are marked with sturdy plastic poles in different colors — green, yellow, and red — where green marks the easiest routes and red the most demanding. Each pole has a reflector at the top, making it easy to use a headlamp and enjoy an evening walk under the open starry sky and moonlight.

The trail markers are placed so that you can always see the next one from the last, but as the terrain gets more challenging, they also become harder to spot.

Please note that trails are not marked along roads due to potential conflict with snowplow markers.

All trails are in natural terrain, along paths and walkways, not on roads. Here you get a true nature experience on foot or snowshoes.

Some trails cross alpine and cross-country ski tracks, so be careful when crossing them. Always follow the snowshoe trail markings and avoid walking on cross-country or alpine ski tracks with snowshoes.

Some of the trails follow parts of The King's Road, which is also used by skiers. Please be aware and considerate, especially in areas where skiers may be coming at high speed.

You can rent snowshoes, poles, and headlamps at the Filefjellstuene reception. Feel free to drop by, but if you want to ensure equipment availability, we recommend pre-booking by sending an email to booking@tyin.no.
