Summit hike to Tyinstølsnøse
Tyinstølsnøse is a short and easily accessible summit hike at the southwest end of Tyin.
Tyinstølsnøse is a short trip that offers good skiing for the effort, or serves as an introduction to ski touring. At the same time, it is important to make your own assessments of snow and avalanche conditions before the trip, as is always the case for all travel in the winter mountains.
The starting point is at Tyinstølen along Tyinvegen (County Road 53). At Tyinstølen, you can pay for parking with Vipps.
The route is on the opposite side of the road from the parking area. It is recommended to follow the summer route southwest at the start to avoid the steepest section. Then turn north towards the ridge and follow it through gentle and open terrain towards the summit.
The ascent is in open terrain all the way, with good visibility. This provides a safe route choice, but it is also important to be aware that the sides of the ridge are steeper and more avalanche-prone in unstable conditions.
The summit at 1386 meters above sea level offers wide views of the area. From here, you can see towards Hurrungane and Jotunheimen, with Store Austabottentinden towering closest. An orientation board has been set up, showing the names and heights of several visible peaks from here.
The descent normally follows the same route as the ascent. The upper part offers open slopes, while the lower part can feel somewhat steeper back towards the road. There are also alternative, steeper lines if you are capable of making your own avalanche assessments.
