Mountain Hike up Uksestigen
A less-visited peak with magnificent views.
Steep hike with a great reward
In olden days, this mountain area was the summer paradise for oxen. Today, it is a wonderful hiking destination with superb views down to Vang and Lake Vangsmjøse.
From Tyinkrysset, drive towards Vang, then turn right towards Skakadalen at Vang Autoservice. You will eventually reach a small parking area, where the trail begins.
The hike follows a V-marked trail through the forest for a long stretch. Gradually, the landscape opens up, and when you finally pass the tree line, a magnificent view of Skakadalen and Grindafjellet on the opposite side is revealed.
When you finally conquer "Ukseporten" (the Ox Gate), the last climb before reaching the mountain plateau at the summit, we highly recommend continuing towards the cairn at the peak (ref. map below). From here, you'll have a spectacular view down towards Vang and Lake Vangsmjøse, which lie a thousand meters below you.
Allow 4-5 hours for the hike, plus driving time from Tyinkrysset.
