Steep Hike with Breathtaking Views

The hike to the 1630-meter high Skutshødn is somewhat demanding, but the reward of the magnificent view from the summit is truly worth it.

The hike begins at Sandalen. To reach this point, turn off Vennisvegen on the north side of Vangsmjøsa. The road leading up to the valley is a toll road.

Near the starting point of the hike lies Sparstadstølen, a traditional mountain farm that operates in the old style and is open on selected days during the summer season. Here you can purchase everything from sour cream porridge to homemade butter, cheese, and ceramics. Highly recommended!

The trail is partially marked. The first section of the hike towards the summit leads through steep heather and scree, while the mountain plateau itself is characterized by boulder fields. The actual summit lies slightly inland on the plateau, but once you've reached it, we recommend taking the time to walk out to the outermost point of the peak. From there, you'll have an absolutely superb view towards Vangsmjøse, the village, and the mountains beyond.

The hike is not technically challenging, but it is steep and relatively demanding in certain sections. Most people in reasonably good physical condition with some experience from mountain hikes in varied and rocky terrain will manage the trip well.

Allow 4-5 hours for the entire hike, plus driving time from Tyinkrysset.
