Get up close and personal with the big peaks in Hurrungane

The 2083-meter-high Store Soleibotntinden is located in the middle of the pearl row of large peaks in Hurrungane, while being relatively easily accessible for anyone with some experience with steep mountain hikes in their backpack.

The trip to Soleibotntinden requires a short drive before you start walking, but is so beautiful that we still choose to include it here. And to top it all off, the drive itself is also beautiful.

To get to the starting point, first drive Fv 53 to Øvre Årdal, before continuing on Tindevegen towards Turtagrø (toll road, paid by card). At Tindevegen there is a parking space at the starting point of the tour, by the bridge over Tverrelvi. If this is full, find another suitable parking space along the road where you do not obstruct other traffic.

The walk to the top from the parking lot is about 4 km. From the parking lot, you cross the bridge, and then take the paved path towards the top. The terrain is mostly easy to walk, but the last few meters of elevation towards the top are characterized by some gravel and loose material. Just before the top there is a small cliff that must be climbed, but it is neither easy nor difficult. The walk is partly marked with scattered cairns.

From the top you have a fantastic view of Store Austabotntind, Ringstindene and Skagastølstindene – which surround Soleibotntinden on all sides. The Jostedalsbreen also sparkles in the sun to the northwest.

Estimate about 5-7 hours for the trip + driving time from Tyin Filefjell (about 1 hour each way).
