Marked snowshoe trail - RED - Steinhaug

Snowshoe trail through snowy nature to beautiful viewpoints.

The red trail offers cozy roads that wind between cabins, untouched nature and a fantastic view of the valley from the top of Steinhaug.

Start the hike straight from Filefjellstuene, and follow the roads that wind through the cabin areas. On the way, you pass Tyinkrysset Fjellstue where you can take a break and be served something good to eat and drink. After crossing the main road, you continue into untouched nature, surrounded by our majestic local mountains. Here you will truly experience a winter idyll. From the top of Steinhaug you get a magnificent view of Tyinkrysset and further down the valley. Take a break and enjoy a packed lunch at the top before continuing down through the winter forest back to Filefjellstuene.

For an extra magical experience, we recommend the trip in the evening. On clear nights you can experience a spectacular starry sky here at Tyin Filefjell, which really captures the attention of both young and old.

The trail is clearly marked with yellow plastic markers with reflectors at the top, making it easy to find your way both during the day and when darkness falls.

Note: Remember that you must take your snowshoes off and on at two intersections along the main road. Use snowshoes only on snow and ice!

Good to know about our marked snowshoe trails

Trail maps can be found on Strava. Here are links directly to the various trails:

Green trail - Rebus race at Synhaug

Yellow trail - Bøastølen

Red trail - Steinhaug

The trails are marked with solid plastic markers in different colors; green, yellow and red, where green is the easiest and red is the most demanding. All markers have reflectors at the top, which makes it easy to wear a headlamp and enjoy the evening under the open starry sky and moonlight.

The sticks are placed so that you can always see the next one from the previous one, but at higher difficulty levels they also become harder to see.

Please note that it is not marked along roads due to potential conflict with snow plows.

All trails are in natural terrain, along paths and walkways, not on roads. Here you get a real nature experience on foot or on snowshoes.

Some of the trails cross alpine trails and cross-country ski tracks, so be careful when crossing these. Always follow the snowshoe trail markings, and avoid walking on cross-country or alpine trails with snowshoes.

Some of the trails follow parts of Kongevegen, which is also used by skiers. Please be aware and considerate, especially in areas where skiers may be coming at high speed.

You can rent snowshoes, poles and headlamps at the reception at Filefjellstuene. Just drop by, but if you want to be sure that the equipment is available, we recommend that you reserve in advance by sending an email to booking@tyin.no .
