The starting point is at Fløkstrønde along the E16, south of the Tyinkrysset. There is parking available at the chain parking lot along the E16, by the Fløgstrøndfjorden. The hike starts in gentle terrain along a forest road through birch forest, where it is easy to find good lines uphill. The terrain is clear and provides a calm start to the hike.

As you get higher, the forest becomes more open and the terrain more open. You then follow natural ridges and gentle flanks towards the top. The climb is steady, without any steep sections.

The last part is in open high mountain terrain. The peak at 1256 m above sea level offers good views of Tyin and the surrounding mountains.

The descent normally follows the same route as the ascent. Be aware of the upper slopes, as well as the stream valley below, where in several places it is steep enough for avalanches to break loose. In the lower part the walk goes through forest, where it can be close between the trees and requires good control of the skis.

Finndalshornet is well suited early in the season, and can be a good alternative on days with bad weather, as you most often walk in sheltered forest terrain up to the tree line. At the same time, the forest sections in the lower part require a lot of snow to provide good conditions.

The hike is around 6 km round trip, and normally takes about 1.5-2 hours at a leisurely pace. It is also good as an evening hike, or when you want an effective session in the mountains.

As always in the winter mountains, conditions should be carefully assessed. Check avalanche warnings in advance, and choose your route according to the conditions.
