A landmark with a magnificent view

A short drive away from Tyin Filefjell is a real landmark with magnificent views of Valdres and Jotunheimen.

Anyone who has driven the E16 through Vang has probably noticed Grindane, or Grindafjellet as it is also called. The 1,724-meter-high peak towers over the village, and looks quite impassable from its steep north side.

But if you take the car towards Helin and Smådalen (toll road, paid by card), you will find the starting point for the trip – and from the south side this trip is doable for most people with some experience from mountain hiking.

From the top you have an impeccable view of Jotunheimen, Helin and Smådalen - but if you have extra energy left, we also recommend a trip to the viewpoint "Veslenibb", from where you have a fantastic view down towards the village of Vangsbygda and Vangsmjøse. Allow an extra 45 minutes for the walk beyond this viewpoint.

Allow 4-5 hours for this trip in total.

Map and more details

The map and tour description show the trip to Grindane starting from the parking lot along Smådalsvegen, about 45 minutes' drive from Tyinkrysset.
