Mjølkedalen offers great nature experiences
Here you are close to the major peaks of Jotunheimen, while at the same time being in a landscape that is undergoing great change.
The hike starts from Eidsbugarden, where there is good parking. From here, follow the marked DNT trail towards Olavsbu until you reach the plateau where Store Mjølkedalsvatnet appears.
From here you can choose to return to Eidsbugarden if you wish. If you have more energy left, we recommend continuing the hike on the west side of the lake towards the glacier front. Like other glaciers in Jotunheimen, Mjølkedalsbreen has also retreated significantly in recent decades, and as you approach the glacier front, the traces of the major changes become clearly visible.
When you leave the DNT trail you enter unmarked terrain, and some parts can be rocky and slippery. Return the same way when you feel like turning around.
