A demanding mountain hike with a guaranteed stomach-churning experience
The hike to the 1,630-meter-high Skutshødnet is a bit demanding, but the reward in the form of the view from the top is formidable.
The hike starts from Sandalen. To get here, turn off from Vennisvegen on the north side of Vangsmjøsa. The road up to the valley is a toll road.
Near the starting point of the tour is Sparstadstølen, a visitor's shop run in the old-fashioned way, which is open on selected days during the summer season. Here you can buy everything from sour cream porridge to homemade butter, cheese and ceramics. Recommended!
The hike is partially V-marked. The first part of the hike to the top goes through steep heather and sedge, while the mountain plateau itself is characterized by blocky ground. The peak itself is located a little inside the mountain plateau, but once you get there, we recommend that you also take the time to walk out to the farthest point of the peak. From here you have a superb view of Vangsmjøse, the village and the mountains behind.
The hike is not technically challenging, but steep and relatively demanding in some parts. Most people in normally good shape and with some experience from mountain hikes in varied and rocky terrain will manage the hike just fine.
Estimate 4-5 hours for the trip in total + driving time from Tyinkrysset.
