Mountain hike to Støgonøse
Viewpoint with an interesting history
A short, pleasant hike up from Nystuen to magnificent views
No other mountain peak is as prominent from Tyinkrysset as the 1453-meter high Skørsnøse.
Start the hike by walking through the Varden cabin area west of Nystuen Hotell. Continue steeply up along the stream from Vesleskardtjern. Then turn right along the ridge up to the summit of Støgonøse. Be aware that it is steep down towards Otrøvatnet when walking along this ridge.
1.5 hours up. Same way back, or you can choose to continue towards Skørsnøse.
At the summit, there is an unusual structure, reportedly built by German soldiers during World War II. It is said to have been used as a lookout post. On one wall, you will find a mailbox containing a book where you can sign your name to record your visit to the summit.
