Mountain hike up Uksestigen
A little-visited peak with great views
Steep hike with great reward
In the old days, this mountain area was the summer paradise of the oxen. Today it is a great hiking destination with superb views down to Vang and Vangsmjøse.
From Tyinkrysset you drive towards Vang, and turn right towards Skakadalen at Vang Autoservice. Here you will eventually come to a small parking area, where the trail starts.
The hike follows the V-marked path through the forest for a long time. Gradually it opens up more, and when you finally break the tree line, a great view of Skakadalen and Grindafjellet on the opposite side is revealed.
When you finally pass "Ukseporten", the last bend before reaching the mountain plateau at the top, we highly recommend continuing towards the cairn at the summit (ref. map below). From here you have a fabulous view down towards Vang and Vangsmjøse, which lies a thousand meters below you.
Estimate 4-5 hours for the trip + driving time from Tyinkrysset.
