Summit Tour to Frostdalsnosi
Frostdalsnosi is a longer summit tour in open high mountain terrain, west of Tyin.
Frostdalsnosi is well-suited for those who desire a slightly longer tour in open terrain, with clear route choices and several options for customization.
Park at a designated, paid parking area by the bridge between Nedre and Øvre Smeddalsvatnet, along E16 - approximately 14 kilometers west of Tyinkrysset.
From the parking area, cross the bridge between the lakes, then turn north and aim for the marked ridge leading up to the summit. The first meters of elevation gain are in gentle terrain, before the climb gradually increases.
The ridge forms a natural and clear route up the mountain. Here, the terrain is even, and there are good opportunities to adjust your line according to the conditions. At the same time, there are steeper flanks on both sides of the ridge. As you gain altitude, the landscape opens up, providing a good overview of the surrounding area. The final meters of elevation gain towards the summit are in steadily rising terrain.
The summit at 1536 m.a.s.l. offers wide views towards Jotunheimen and the mountain areas around Filefjell. This is one of the higher peaks in the area, providing a distinct high-mountain feel.
The descent normally follows the same route as the ascent. In good and stable conditions, there are also possibilities for more direct lines on the flanks, with steeper skiing. These areas can be avalanche-prone, and it is important to make assessments along the way.
