Find your winter adventure on snowshoes!

Snowshoeing is both a fun and efficient way to move through the winter landscape.

From Filefjellstuene you can put on your snowshoes right outside the door and choose between three marked snowshoe trails in the area. Choose a route according to your fitness level and experience – there is something for everyone!

All the tours stop at great viewpoints, so remember to bring a packed lunch and something warm in a thermos. Enjoy the silence, the view and the winter atmosphere at its very best.

Good to know about our marked snowshoe trails

Trail maps can be found on Strava. Here are links directly to the various trails:

Green trail - Rebus race at Synhaug

Yellow trail - Bøastølen

Red trail - Steinhaug

The trails are marked with sturdy plastic poles in different colors — green, yellow, and red — where green marks the easiest routes and red the most demanding. Each pole has a reflector at the top, making it easy to use a headlamp and enjoy an evening walk under the open starry sky and moonlight.

The trail markers are placed so that you can always see the next one from the last, but as the terrain gets more challenging, they also become harder to spot.

Please note that it is not marked along roads due to potential conflict with snow plows.

All trails are in natural terrain, along paths and walkways, not on roads. Here you get a real nature experience on foot or on snowshoes.

Some of the trails cross alpine trails and cross-country ski tracks, so be careful when crossing these. Always follow the snowshoe trail markings, and avoid walking on cross-country or alpine trails with snowshoes.

Some of the trails follow parts of The King's Road, which is also used by skiers. Please be aware and considerate, especially in areas where skiers may be coming at high speed.

You can rent snowshoes, poles and headlamps at the reception at Filefjellstuene. Just drop by, but if you want to be sure that the equipment is available, we recommend that you reserve in advance by sending an email to booking@tyin.no .

On snowshoes along the King's Road

The King's Road is well suited for snowshoeing, with stages that offer both history and beautiful scenery.

Choose between the iconic Vindhella hairpin bends by Borgund Stave Church, the beautiful forest stretch between Øye and Filefjellstuene, or the high mountain hike from Filefjellstuene to Maristova over what is the highest point of the King's Road.

Snowshoeing outside marked trails

There are many great destinations for snowshoeing, even off-piste. Here we have collected some of our favorites.

Some can be started right from the door at Filefjellstuene, while others require a short drive. Here are trips that are suitable for both those who want to stroll around a bit and those who want a longer day trip in the mountains.
