There's something special about the mountains when summer lets loose

The air becomes crisper. The pace calms down. Colors creep over the mountains, and on clear days Jotunheimen almost seems even closer than usual.

Autumn at Tyin Filefjell is suitable for those who like to use their bodies, but who also appreciate what comes with it: a long breakfast, a good dinner and time to sit around a little extra.

Set aside the day for Filefjellseggen

For a really good autumn day in the mountains, Filefjellseggen is a natural first choice.

The trip starts from Kyrkjestølen via Støgonøse and continues over the ridge to Skørsnøse Along the way, the view follows you almost the entire way, with Otrøvatnet below and the peaks of Jotunheimen on the horizon.

The hike is moderately demanding and normally takes around three to five hours.

Experience the mountains on two wheels

As long as the weather and conditions allow, autumn is also a great time to experience the mountains on two wheels. Tyin Filefjell has several hiking opportunities on both regular and electric bikes, and rentals are available from Filefjellstuene and Intersport Filefjell. Among the must-see hikes in the area are Koldedalen, Tunnelvegen to the Thousand Meters and parts of the Mjølkevegen.

On an electric bike, the threshold is lower to cover slightly greater distances, and you can use your energy to see more – instead of necessarily pedaling as hard as possible.

Mountain holiday at a slower pace

A good mountain holiday doesn't have to be about reaching as many peaks as possible. For many, it's just as nice to have plenty of time, choose short trips, and let the days develop a bit along the way.

Walk around Otrøvatnet , find some poles or just set off on a hike without a specific destination. The pole hunt at Tyin Filefjell continues through week 41, with posts both easily accessible and further up the mountain, while the hike around Otrøvatnet offers a nice combination of nature and cultural history.

This can be a quiet day between longer trips – or just the way a trip in the fall is allowed to be. Because sometimes the best plan is simply to have plenty of time.
