The fall break doesn't have to be full of plans. Sometimes it's enough to get to the mountains, get out your hiking boots, and see what the day has in store.

At Tyin Filefjell, small and big adventures are close at hand. You can hunt poles, try frisbee golf, go on a mountain hike or follow old roads over the mountains. And perhaps it is precisely in the fall that it is especially nice to be outside: with fresh air, low shoulders and a mountain landscape that is constantly changing color.

Turn your trip into a hunt

Kids don't always need a tall mountain as a goal. Sometimes a pole works much better.

The Stolpejakten is an easy way to discover Tyin Filefjell, and you decide how long the trip should be. Some poles are easily accessible in the surrounding area, while others require a little more effort. In 2026, there are two maps with a total of 110 poles, and both are available in the Stolpejakten app. The poles are out until and through the autumn holidays, depending on the map and snow conditions.

Make it a little family competition, see how many you can do in one day – or use the poles as an excuse to explore somewhere you wouldn't otherwise go.

Stay in the middle of the autumn holidays

At Filefjellstuene you stay with several hiking opportunities right outside your door. From here you can, among other things, go towards Børrenøse, Otrøvatnet , Skørsnøse and Kongevegen without spending much of the day in the car.

Follow in the footsteps of those who crossed the mountain before us

A road runs across Filefjell that has been important long before autumn holidays were a concept.

The King's Road over Filefjell was opened in 1793, and several of the sections can now be walked as easy day trips. This makes the King's Road a good option for families who want to hike without necessarily climbing a mountain.

You can, among other things, walk on Filefjell itself, or take a trip west and experience famous areas such as Vindhella. The King's Road is in season from June to October.

For children, history can be half the experience: Who walked here before? What was it like when you had to cross the mountain by horse and cart? And how long do you think the journey actually took?

Challenge the family to frisbee golf

Who in the family really has the best throwing arm?

At Filefjellstuene you will find an 18-hole disc golf course, with different routes adapted to different levels. For families and beginners there is a short orange round of four holes, while those who get a taste for the sport can try their hand at the full course.

It is free to play, and frisbees can be rented at Filefjellstuene. The course is open from June to October.
